Ole Miss’ Tre Harris caught a 13-yard touchdown pass with 39 seconds remaining in the game, but LSU marched down the field before the final pass fell incomplete as the No. 20 Rebels win 55-49 win over No. 13 LSU.

It was a track meet in Oxford as the Rebels set a team record in an SEC game with 711 yards. The two teams combined for 1,343 yards of total offense, 14 touchdowns, two late lead changes and strong individual performances from both quarterbacks. The 1,343 yards is third most total yards in SEC history.

Jaxson Dart, who also rushed for a touchdown, finished 26 of 39 passing for 389 yards. He ran for 50 yards and successfully rallied the Rebels from 49-40 down in the final 8:34.

“Really happy for our players and the fans,” Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin said. “It was an electric atmosphere. It’s not about me. The players played their butts off.

“We got a stop when we needed to, finally.”

The Rebels trailed for much of the second half but got the ball back with a chance to win with 2:36 to go. As LSU prepared for the passing game, Ole Miss ran the ball on the first five plays of the drive before Dart hit Harris for a 24-yard gain on a play-action pass.

Kiffin acknowledged how difficult it was to rebound from last year’s loss to Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

“That’s a hard game to come back from,” he said. “They played their ass off today. We scored more than they did.”

Dart threw for four touchdowns before a school-record crowd of 66,703 on Saturday night.

Ole Miss (4-1, 1-1 SEC) survived a final play incomplete pass to the end zone from the 25-yard line by LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels that sailed slightly above Chris Hilton Jr.

LSU (3-2, 2-1) was led by Jayden Daniels, finishing 27 of 36 passing for 414 yards and four touchdowns, including three to Brian Thomas Jr. of 11, 20 and 34 yards. Daniels added 99 rushing yards as the Tigers wiped out a 28-14 first half deficit before falling.

The Rebels won on an 88-yard drive in less than two minutes, capped by the Dart to Harris touchdown pass. Dart was 3 of 3 on the drive for 54 yards, as the Rebels capped a total offense performance of 706 yards, including Quinshon Judkins with 33 rushes for 177 yards and a touchdown.

With LSU off-balance, Ole Miss then threw the ball on the final three plays of its drive as Harris darted between defenders to get into the end zone.

LSU had a final chance to get a game-winning TD itself and gained 42 yards on its first play before an Ole Miss penalty for a horsecollar tackle put the Tigers in the red zone. But two false starts followed that penalty and LSU’s last-ditch pass to the end zone as time expired fell incomplete.
